Lili is also speaking up about the importance of getting help when needed, and to never feel ashamed to ask for it.
Lili Reinhart has never been one to shy away about revealing details on her past and present struggles with mental health, including anxiety and depression, and in her recent interview with V Magazine, she even opened up about the one decision that aided her long road to recovery.
Talking about her big move to Los Angeles when she was just 18 years old, Lili revealed that her anxiety and depression affected her in every way, ever. She said QUOTE, “I lived in three different apartments. I had a horrible roommate situation at first. I lived in Burbank, and then I moved to Hollywood Hills and lived in a shared house with seven other people. When I moved there, it was just me. And I wasn’t going to school, so I didn’t have any way to really meet people, necessarily, or be social.”
That said, there wasn’t much else to do besides wait around for auditions to which Lili revealed she spent most of her days QUOTE, “literally doing nothing, sitting in my room watching Netflix and waiting for an audition to come in. And it was miserable.”
This led her to leave LA for a while and returned back home to Ohio where she picked up a few regular jobs, but also began regularly going to therapy. She said QUOTE, “I saw a therapist for six months and had to build myself back up again. Then I moved back out and booked Riverdale, which is wonderful. But like I said, it definitely didn’t happen overnight, and it was hard.”
She went on to say that she still sees a therapist even now when she’s working in Canada, and that seeing a therapist at different points in her life for different reasons has helped with her stress-management and work life.
Speaking of working in Canada, Lili also opened up about her Riverdale character Betty Cooper, revealing that we’ll be seeing a lot more “Dark Betty” this season. Lili revealed that “dark” and “tortured” go hand in hand saying QUOTE, “She’s tortured this season. And we’re only halfway through filming, and only six episodes have aired, but there’s so much more coming. The audience has no idea what’s coming, and I just feel like I know Betty’s secrets. I wish I could share them with the world already, but I can’t yet.”
As for why Dark Betty has been making more of a common reappearance this season, Lili alluded to the fact that there’s darkness inside everyone, but Betty’s just manifests itself in more of an exaggerated way, similar to an alter ego.
Well we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Lili, Betty and Dark Betty this season, but right now I want to know all your thoughts on Lili’s interview with V Magazine, so get to talking down here in the comments, and as always, be sure to subscribe for all the latest updates.
