Normani Talks Hiding In 5th Harmony & How Beyonce & Jay-Z Are Supporting Her!

What’s up everyone, happy Tuesday! It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and Normani just revealed in a recent interview that she’s surprisingly had “lifelong shyness." I mean you wouldn’t know it from her performances or stage presence, but apparently she’s been dealing with shyness her whole career. In a recent interview with our sister publication Cosmopolitan, which Normani covers for the December issue, Normani revealed that speaking up for herself has been a pretty recent development.She dished about how she’s spent the majority of her life hiding and feeling very introverted. Growing up she would spend her time watching Britney, Shakira, Christina, and more on MTV. But things completely changed for Normani when she auditioned for X Factor.As we all know, that’s where she got her start in the girl group, Fifth Harmony. And while obviously Normani has come a long way since her Fifth Harmony days, her confidence hasn’t always been where it is now. She’s now handling the spotlight solo, but that wasn't initially the shy star's intention. She said quote, “I remember always being asked, ‘Why do you wanna be in a girl group? So you can hide?' And that's exactly what I was trying to do.”Okay, wait, Normani, you’re telling us you were trying to HIDE in fifth harmony?! That’s crazy! Eventually, though, she didn't want to hide anymore and honestly, thank goodness for that. And Normani also talked about the inspiration behind her music video for her hit single, Motivation. She said quote, “I told the director, ‘I want this to be as black as possible.’ I was like, let’s show black culture. Why does pop music have to be so white? Why don’t we make it a little bit more me?”And this was so important to Normani because of the women that blazed trails for her like Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, and Tina Turner.And what Normani’s doing is obviously working.She’s in a place now where her idols like Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Kelly Rowland have all said they are Normani fansAnd according to Normani, even Beyonce and Jay Z have stanned her work off the record. Yes you heard that right.She has had contact with Bey and Jay!OMG did you hear that? Can you imagine having that conversation with Bey and Jay Z? I would love for these three to maybe work together. Now, that would be epic!And like we just said before, Rihanna has been an outspoken fan of Normani’s work. And she’s made that known but working with her on some of her latest projects like her Savage X Fenty lingerie line.It was just announced last week that Normani is Savage X Fenty’s first official spokesperson.Normani posted the news on her Instagram wearing head to toe Savage X Fenty holiday collection lingerie.And in a statement Rihanna said quote, “Normani is the perfect choice for a Savage X ambassador. She exudes confidence and power. Everything she does is executed with passion and the belief she's going to kill it. That's why people gravitate towards her.”And we are so here for this collab 100%.It comes just a couple months after Normani slayed her performance during the Savage x Fenty show, making her the OBVIOUS choice for brand ambassador.And while we were all literally OBSESSED with Normani’s performance, it didn’t only impress the viewers, it impressed Rihanna herself.Normani told Vogue how she was asked to work with Savage X Fenty officially.But even with this collab, Normani’s shyness and confidence came up. During her fashion show performance, Normani, obviously wore lingerie from the brand but even she had to give herself a pep talk beforehand about her confidence.Normani continued on and said quote, “Rih specifically asked for me to dance, and so I was just really, really excited to be a part of that moment. I feel like it was really revolutionary and really very special. I'm just really excited to watch the growth of Savage X and hopefully continue to be a part of it.”And fans couldn’t be more excited for this collab.And I’m just gonna say it to put it out there, now that Normani and Rihanna are officially working together, maybe they will eventually work together on music.But either way, we’re just glad Normani is where she is today and has come out of her shell because now we get to enjoy her talents on the reg.But I want to know what you guys think.
