Selena Gomez fires back at her critics with some major support for the March for Our Lives movement.
Selena speaks out about a cause she’s passionate about!
Just YES. Over the weekend dozens of celebs came out to show support for the March for Our Lives rally. Hundred’s of public protests were organized around the country demanding gun reform in the wake of the Parkland school shooting. Our girl Selena Gomez supported the march in a significant way- not only did she overhaul over her social media with messages about the rally but she also attended the protest in LA. Before the march Selena posted the movement’s logo on her Instagram and wrote in the caption: “Protect kids, not guns! #MarchForOurLives”. But this was only the beginning of Selena’s rare political message. She showed up to the march in LA with “Never Again” and “March For Our Lives” written on her arm. Following the protest, SelGo posted three photos from the event and captioned them all with the same message pleading for change: “I don’t want this to just be an Instagram post anymore. PLEASE. ENOUGH. These people, families and CHILDREN have suffered enough. Today we march for our lives. I’m going to continue to trust god with the future and also play my part in bringing change.”
We applaud SelGo for her bravery in publicly demanding gun control reform. This is a major moment for Selena – if you Remember back in 2016 when Selena defended Taylor Swift after Kim Kardashian leaked her phone calls with Kanye? However this twitter interaction shifted into a conversation about Black Lives Matter? If you recall, Selena tweeted about there being more important things to to use your voice for. Critics then attacked Selena for not speaking out on police brutality and or hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. Selena fired back, “oh lol so that means if I hashtag something I save lives? No- I could give two f*cks about ‘sides’. You don’t know what I do.” Clearly now Selena is in a different place and using her voice for a cause that is gaining spead (thank goodness) thanks to a successful hashtag.
Some Twitizens have tweeted support for Selena’s change of heart about hashtags and political support. And some were quick to call her out. One fan tweeted, “Yeah, wasn’t so “woke” or taking action for #BlackLivesMatter movement. Gun violence is a plague in this country that unproportionately affects POC but it gets mass coverage when the face of a movement is more like the face in the mirror to some.”
What do you guys think of Selena’s amazing public support for March for Our Lives? Share your thoughts below! For more from March for Our Lives this weekend, click here to see Miley, Demi, and Ariana perform at the LA protest. I’m your host Joslyn Davis, thanks so much for tuning in.
