The controversy surrounding Selena Gomez’ decision to be cast in Woody Allen’s film A Rainy Day in New York following his own daughter’s sexual abuse claims against him, continue to stir up confusion and anger from her fanbase. So much so, that Selena’s own mother, Mandy Teefey, revealed on Instagram that she advised Sel not to work with the director, but that QUOTE, “No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. [The decision] falls on deaf ears.”
Not only did Selena’s decision outrage many people, but she noticeably shied away from discussing why she chose to work on the film when she was directly asked. However, in the wake of thousands of people coming forward and openly sharing their stories of sexual assault, Selena evidently had a change of heart, and decided to make a hefty donation to the Time’s Up Campaign’s Legal Defense Fund.
One source revealed to People Magazine that Selena QUOTE, “…made a significant donation anonymously” and that it’s said to provide subsidized legal support to women and men who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace and while in pursuit of their careers.”
Although the exact amount she donated was not originally disclosed, media outlet Pop Crave revealed that the recent “Anonymous” donation of a million dollars was, in fact, Selena’s. One source also revealed that the donation QUOTE, “…far exceeded [the] salary she received from working on A Rainy Day in New York.” Selena joins a number of her Rainy Day costars who’ve also donated their earnings to the cause, including Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Hall, who both donated their entire salaries from the film.
Timothee spoke out about his decision to work on the film, stating that he wasn’t contractually allowed to disclose that information, but that he WOULD be donating all of his earnings to two other charities besides Time’s Up, including the LGBT Center in New York and the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
I’ve gotta say, that was definitely a good call on Selena’s part to donate to the movement, and although the amount wasn’t stated, we can only imagine the generosity and thought behind her decision – but right now I want to know what you guys think about Sel’s donation to the Time’s Up movement, so get to talking down here in the comments, and after that, be sure to click right over here for more details surrounding her mother’s warning to her about working on the film.
