Selena Gomez has had quite a busy year touring the globe on her successful Revival tour, but the superstar has just opened up about taking time off to restore her mental health.
Celebs are people, too, and with their demanding schedules and nonstop appearances, can you really blame them for just needing a little room to breathe?
If there’s one celebrity who vows to always put her fans first and keep them in the know, it’s Selena Gomez, and in return, her loyal Selenators only want the best for her. Over the past three years, Sel has been open about her diagnosis with the autoimmune disease Lupus, including chemotherapy sessions and anxiety, and following her Revival tour, Selena has just revealed she needs to take time off for her own wellbeing due to the disease.
In a statement released to People Magazine, Selena began by saying QUOTE, “As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”
She went on to explain that at this time, her health is her main priority, saying, “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best.”
Possible signs of anxiety occurred during her Jakarta tour stop when Selena posted a cryptic message about feeling unauthentic and unconnected to Instagram following her birthday in July, writing, “I act on a moment and fear something that hasn't happened. I'm stagnant, I stay still and don't just sit with myself first and ask, 'Is this where I am, whole heartedly?' I'm always true to my word, I've shown who I am but I need to rethink some areas of my life creatively and personally.”
But according to co-CEO and co-president of the Lupus Research Alliance, Kenneth M. farber, depressing and panic attacks are not commonly known side effects, in which case, gave his best wishes to Selena for recognizing the issue, saying, “We are so proud of Selena for taking care of herself and bringing awareness to this sometimes very misunderstood illness.”
Although many fans questions if there were ulterior motives in the decision to take time off, a source told People that the break is QUOTE, “absolutely not related to alcohol or substance abuse”, and was prompted after she “hadn't felt like herself” over the last couple of months. The source also said that clearing her calendar for the year will ensure future happiness and that Selena “feels relieved that she can now make more sense of why she was feeling the way she was and is optimistic about the future.”
As expected, we wish nothing but the best for Selena during this time and can’t wait for her to come back as healthy and happy as ever, so right now, be sure to send Selena lots of love and well wishes right down here in the comments section, and after that don’t forget to click right here to see all the riveting pop culture topics we’re covering on our new Weekly Chat Show, and as always don’t forget to subscribe.
