In a new interview Selena talks having to keep her guard up, the absence of a private life, and her staunch opposition against becoming a cat lady.
Selena sat down with Elvis Duran of the Z100 Morning Show and talked about the positive side of social media saying that it has allowed her to connect to her fans directly in order to debunk rumors.
Selena also opened up about the absence of a personal life due to being a public figure but pointed out that HELLO she’s a normal person saying– “If I was truly everything that people say I am, you would see it. It's not like I can hide anything any more. My life is so public that I do take that into consideration. But I'm also a normal person, I'm a human being and I'm feeling things. I get sad, I get anxious, I get emotional, I get happy! Especially in my 20s, my gosh! I feel like I'm figuring out who I am and I'm constantly being criticized."
She also talked about the importance of staying guarded and being careful about who she shares information with saying QUOTE – “You can't talk about anything that you want to share with people because it's going to be ripped apart, and that's what makes me really sad. That's why I had to start doing it through my music and that was the whole reason why ‘The Heart Wants What it Wants' came out was because I was like I have a right to say what I'm going to say. If you're going to sit here and talk about my life, I have a right to say what I want and obviously I'm going to do it the way I wish to. But it is unfortunate, and you have to be guarded. I don't trust anyone...It's something that I have to live with and I have to find the balance of who I want in my life and who isn't good for me."
She mentioned that through all of the madness, it’s refreshing to have roommates who don’t want anything from her and are far removed from the entertainment industry seeing that one’s a realtor and the other works in social media for a non-profit.
Selena also joked that although her life is hectic and it can be hard to find people who she can trust to talk to, but she refuses to get a cat. She said - "I don't have a cat yet don't make me a cat lady yet...Taylor's trying to convince me to get one."
