Taylor Swift Admits She Didn’t Drink Alcohol Until Turning 21

We’ve all seen what premature partying can do to the career of a young, rising star, and it looks like Taylor Swift did all she could to avoid that fate.
The singer sat down with Barbara Walters as part of her Most Fascinating People of 2014 special, and revealed that she abstained from drinking alcohol until she was the legal age, 21.
During the interview Taylor had this to say:
“I mean, I do drink, I am 25.” Side note, she turned 25 on December 13.
She continued: “Yeah, I was at a Knicks game and I had a beer and everybody was like, ‘Ohhh!’ I was like, ‘Tsk.’ I did wait until I was 21 to drink. I was so paranoid about getting in trouble or setting the wrong example or sending the wrong message.”
Props to Taylor – when you’re as big a star as she is, and at such a young, impressionable age, there can be a LOT of negative influences around. So good on her for following her moral compass and not letting the pressures of Hollywood get to her.
Taylor spoke about being a role model to all her younger fans, and told Barbara:
“I put every one of my actions through a filter before I do them because that’s the way my life is. That the reality…If I do something reckless or thoughtless or careless, or I treat someone badly, that doesn’t just affect me; it affects that person. Then, if that story gets out, or some 10-year-old sees that I did that in a news article…my actions do have ripples.”
And of course, Barbara had to throw in a question about romance, to which Taylor said:
“I don’t see a scenario right now, the way my life is, in which it could work. So I don’t think about it because I don’t like to think about things that I can’t solve.”
However, it looks like Taylor might have worked something out, because rumors she’s dating The 1975 front man Matt Healy have been heating up as of late. Either way, Taylor has had pretty much the best year ever – with or WITHOUT a man, and that’s why we love her.
