Taylor Swift used Labor Day Weekend’s full slate of football to introduce a new song to the world and dethrone her revenge song “Look What You Made me Do”. During Saturday’s Florida State versus Alabama college football game, Taylor teased her new song “Ready For It” in an ESPN promo.
Now the full “Ready For It” song has now dropped on Spotify, and it starts with Taylor kinda-almost RAPPING.
The surprise sports anthem song focuses on the beginning of a romantic relationship singing, “Knew he was a killer/ First time that I saw him/ Wondered how many girls/ he had loved and left haunted”. But when the chorus comes in the aggressive song does a total 180.
Then PLOT TWIST Taylor brings up her own long list of lovers singing quote, “Burton to his Taylor/ Every love I’ve known in comparison is a failure/ I forget their names now.” It seems Taylor is back to doing what we know and love her for: singing about her ex-lovers.
“Reputation”’s first single “Look What You Made Me Do” was clearly a statement piece that seemed to throw shade but there are no jabs here. And while the subject matter of “Ready For It” seems familiar, the sound isn’t. Just like “Look What You Made Me Do”, this new song has revealed a dark electronic era for Taylor’s pop music.
