And if there’s one thing Taylor is hoping to get out of this trial, it’s to set an example for others to speak up and say NO to sexual assault.
Today marked the second day of Taylor Swift’s court case where she is testifying against former Colorado DJ David Mueller for allegedly groping her butt during a meet and greet back in 2013. After carefully selecting the jury yesterday, which consists of 6 females and 2 males, reports claim that Taylor was focused and calm in court today as her lawyers presented the opening statements to the panel.
Dressed in a black, long-sleeved dress over a collared shirt and her hair pulled back into a low bun, Taylor sat aside her mother Andrea Swift, who is also a co-defendant in the case, reportedly became slightly emotional, and was seen dabbing at her cheeks during the opening statements.
Taylor’s attourney began by saying that Taylor is “taking a stand for all women” and that “this is a case of sexual assault in the workplace.” Her lawyer also told the jury panel that right after the alleged incident, Taylor told someone on her team, ‘Dude, that guy just grabbed my ass.’ Her lawyer went onto add that QUOTE, “A woman is assaulted. She reports it and she gets sued … it doesn’t make sense. She’s trying to tell people out there that you can say no when someone grabs you no matter who they are.”
TMZ also reported that Tay’s lawyer also stated up front that Taylor is literally only seeking $1 in her countersuit against Mueller on principle, because she believes what he did is assault. She’s absolutely certain that he grabbed her butt and is set to declare it on the stand at some point during this week’s trial.
Mueller's attorney, however, says that David "unequivocally denies" he touched Taylor in an inappropriate way, and that his career has been ruined by her butt grab allegations. Therefore, he countersued Taylor later in 2015 for defamation. Following the opening statements, David was called to give his testimony just before the court broke for lunch.
Taylor was said to have remained “stoic” and poised throughout the morning and even occasionally peeped over to her fans in the courtroom gallery to acknowledge them. She also revealed in her countersuit that any money she does end up winning from the trial will be donated to “charitable organizations dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard.”
Well this clearly goes to show that not all heroes wear capes, but most importantly, it’s so important for victims of sexual assault to always speak up. We applaud Taylor for doing a brave deed, not just for herself, but for victims around the world, so right now, I want to hear all your thoughts on the trial so far, and any well wishes you have for Taylor, and you can do all that down here in the comments, and as always, be sure to subscribe for more updates.
