It was only a matter of time before the fashion chameleon landed her first Vogue cover and finally the time has come. Zendaya looks stunning on the cover of Vogue’s July 2017 issue styled in Calvin Klein. The gorgeous spread comes along with a fashion video that showcases Zendaya embodying styles throughout the decades.
Vogue has deemed Zendaya the QUOTE – “ultimate style chameleon, able to pull off virtually any look.” In her interview, Zendaya recalled the negotiations she made with Disney at the young age of 16 when agreeing to sign on to do her second show with the company you know now as K.C Undercover. The show was originally called Super Awesome Katy which she made her first order of business to change telling Vogue QUOTE - “I was like, ‘The title is whack. That’s gonna change.” She then scratched the character’s name saying – “Do I look like a Katy to you?” Before insisting that the show feature a family of color. She then negotiated that the character be a figure that could empower young girls to be more than what has typically been portrayed for them in the past. Zendaya told Vogue QUOTE - “I wanted to make sure that she wasn’t good at singing or acting or dancing. That she wasn’t artistically inclined. I didn’t want them to all of a sudden be like, ‘Oh, yeah, and then she sings this episode!’ No. She can’t dance; she can’t sing. She can’t do that stuff. There are other things that a girl can be….I want her to be martial arts–trained. I want her to be able to do everything that a guy can do. I want her to be just as smart as everybody else. I want her to be a brainiac.”
Zendaya explained that many of her friends feel obligated to say yes to everything in professional situations because they feel as though they don’t have the power to speak up, but she insists otherwise saying QUOTE - “A lot of people don’t realize their power. I have so many friends who say yes to everything or feel like they can’t stand up for themselves in a situation. No: You have the power.” He is so dope. Girlfriend did all of that when she was just 16. Now she’s 20 year’s old and is about to go into yet another season of filming for KC Undercover, doing promo for her new Spiderman Homecoming film, and is in production on a new film where she stars alongside Zac Efron. In addition to talking about her humble beginnings, Zendaya also shared that she went through a break-up last spring from her boyfriend of four years. Who knew? She told Vogue QUOTE - “It was my first love. It wasn’t a good ending. You know you’re OK in a breakup when your first thought is not, ‘What did I do wrong?’ It’s, ‘That was the dumbest decision of your life, and you’re going to regret it forever.’” I’ll tell you I’m never one to go out and buy Vogue but this time I will most definitely be buying a copy and keeping it on my coffee table.
