This year’s BET Awards was one for the books. From Meek Mill’s emotionally chilling performance to Michael B Jordan spontaneously reciting one of his most memorable lines from Black Panther, the show was nothing short of perfection.
Kicking off our list of best moments from the 2018 BET Awards is none other than Queen Nicki Minaj. Nicki took the stage by storm and performed a medley of her latest hits “Chun-Li” and “Rich Sex” before bringing out YG, 2 Chainz, and Big Sean for the grand finale.
This whole performance just got me so excited for this new era in Nicki’s career.
And speaking of the Queen’s career, during the show, host of the night Jamie Foxx celebrated black girl excellence while congratulating Nicki on her success. Jamie gave her a sweet toast, but not before getting a little flirty (and flustered) when Nicki grabbed the microphone from his hand and started to talk to him.
Yeah, being around Nicki will do that to ya.
However, Jamie wasn’t the only member of the Foxx household who got a little flustered during the show. His daughter Corinne had a minor flub when she read Snoop Dogg’s name right before the commercial break.
Last time I checked, it was Snoop Dogg, not Snoop Bogg, but who knows. Maybe he decided to change his name again.
It’s hard to take the spotlight away from someone as incredible as Anita Baker, but Yolanda Adams managed to do just that. During the Lifetime Achievement Award segment, a number of stars came out to perform a medley of Anita’s greatest hits throughout the years as a musical tribute.
However, the one person who everyone could NOT stop talking about was Yolanda, who performed Anita’s hit, ‘You Bring Me Joy,’ and perfectly hit every single note.
There aren’t enough words in this world to describe how perfect and incredible Yolanda’s performance was.
The BET Awards are all about celebrating black excellence, so it’s not surprising when all Jamie Foxx could talk about during his opening monologue was the cultural impact ‘Black Panther’ had on the world. In fact, he even managed to pull Michael B. Jordan from the audience to recite his character’s most powerful and memorable line from the film.
