Nope, not even celebs are immune to the Yanny vs Laurel audio that is tearing apart the internet.
The audio version of “the dress” has the internet shooketh.
It was over 3 years ago that we were cyber feuding over a dress that was either white and gold or blue and black. If you thought “the dress” internet meltdown was an anomaly then you’re one of the only breathing souls that hasn’t heard of “Yanny or Laurel” yet. The color swapping dress now has an audio counterpart. On May 14th YouTuber Cloe Feldman started the Yanny vs Laurel debate on her Insta Story and Twitter writing, “What do you hear?! Yanny or Laurel?”
These two VERY different words have now taken on new meaning. Some swear the clip says Laurel and some swear it says Yanny. And some say they can hear both. Our girl Chrissy Teigen picked sides tweeting, “it’s so clearly laurel. I can’t even figure out how one would hear yanny. It’s Laurel”. She then went so far as to completely mute these now-overused words. Ellen Degeneres retweeted Cloe’s tweet and said, “Literally everything at my show just stopped to see if people hear Laurel or Yanny. I hear Laurel.” But Emmy Rossum was one of the lucky ones that could hear BOTH, “I hear #yanny so clearly… but if I listen closely I can hear a deep quiet ghost saying #laurel...so there”. Football star JJ Watt tweeted our truth, “Yanny vs. Laurel is starting some real fights”.
Internet theorists have decided this audio discrepancy all comes down to frequency. What you hear depends on the amount of bass that’s being produced by the device you’re listening on.

If you play the clip with low volume there won’t be much bass and you will likely hear Yanny. If you turn the volume up on some speakers that have actual bass then you will probably hear Laurel. This debate explains SO MUCH more than Yanny vs Laurel. All the times your girl said “you hear what you want to hear” may NOT be accurate. Remember- it’s all about the frequency. Okay enough of us- tell us below if you are a Yanny or a Laurel? And do you have ANOTHER theory for this debate? After that check out the best dressed from the Met Gala right here.
