Being on the cover of Vogue is a HUGE deal, but Gigi Hadid is left apologizing for her most recent gig after she is accused of black face.
This episode is brought to you by Secret Active. New Secret Active provides protection in the moments when it matters most.
Gigi Hadid is clearing up the rumors behind her Vogue cover and she’s not holding back.
Although it may feel like Gigi Hadid has been on every single Vogue cover possible and it should be super normal for her, she still gets emotional and excited every time she appears on the iconic fashion magazine.
When the 23-year-old revealed her newest cover for Vogue Italia she said that she was QUOTE “excited, honored, and grateful” and we love that she is still so proud of her incredible work. But instead of getting praise for yet another killer photo shoot, Gigi was met with concern and questions.
In the cover photo, Gigi’s skin color is noticeably darker than it usually is. So much so that many people called her out on using black face. Obviously this is a serious issue, and it didn’t take long for the model to comment on the situation.
Gigi posted a paparazzi photo that was taken when she was leaving the cover shoot back in April that showed what color her skin was when the pictures were actually being taken.

She captioned the photo with a long explanation and apology. Gigi focused on the fact that she was seriously bronzed for the photo shoot saying QUOTE “the bronzing and photoshop is a style S.Klein has done for many years” and QUOTE “Although I understand what Vogue Italia‘s intentions were, it was not executed correctly, and the concerns that have been brought up are valid.”
Gigi also explained that she usually has zero control over how a final image comes out saying QUOTE “Please understand that my control of a shoot 1. is non existent in terms of creative direction 2. ends completely when I leave set, and anything done to a photo in post is out of my control fully.” She summed up her thoughts on the accusations by saying QUOTE “Please know that things would have been different if my control of the situation was different. Regardless, I want to apologize because my intention is never to diminish these concerns or take opportunities away from anyone else.”
We seriously love that she not only owned up to the actions, but she explained her side and made a sincere apology. It’s obvious by Gigi’s work ethic that she would never knowingly offend people, and we hope that by her taking a stand fashion publications will become more aware of their actions.
Do you think Gigi’s cover crossed the line or did she not need to apologize? Let us know in the comments below! I’m Zoe Lillian, thanks for tuning in!
