Taylor Swift was on Good Morning America the day before her highly anticipated 7th album drops and spilled the tea on ‘Lover’, her MTV VMA performance, and she answered the one burning question on all of our minds -- is she actually going to re-record all of her old music so she can own the rights on her new label?
What’s up? It’s Emile Ennis Jr. here with Clevver News and Taylor’s entire album Lover drops tomorrow and to say I’m excited would be an understatement.
I am going to be up all night listening, crying, and wearing pastel colors. So if you need me for the next 24 hours, that’s where I’m going to be.
And ahead of her Lover music video release this afternoon, Taylor appeared on GMA and gave the interview I needed to hold me over before her new music comes out.
She confirmed that she will in fact be re-recording all of her music because the original masters are currently owned by Scooter Braun, who acquired Big Machine Label earlier this summer.
And obviously this is a bit more complicated than just getting in the studio with a guitar, curled hair, and red lipstick.
Taylor explain the legal reasons behind how and when she can re-record her music.
So it looks like her contract with Big Machine doesn't allow her to re-record her new music quite yet, but something tells me with her new album, she’s going to be busy enough until next November.
And Taylor won’t be the first artist to do this. Most notably, Prince pulled this off during his battles with Warner Bros. Records.
However, in Prince’s case, the re-recordings ended up making the originals more valuable. So there’s a chance that Taylor could end up making Scooter more money, but it looks like that’s a risk she’s willing to take.
And I don’t think Scooter is too concerned about Taylor’s revenge plan because according to TMZ, he bought Big Machine Records for $300 million, but now the company's full catalog, not just Taylor's songs, is now valued at close to $1 billion!
But aside from the money and politics of it all, I have so many questions about Taylor re-recording her songs.
Will the music sound the same as it did all those years ago? Or is Taylor going to make newer versions of these songs? And will the old ones be removed from streaming platforms?
Unfortunately, Taylor didn’t answer any of those questions yet, but she did answer some other questions we had.
She revealed when she will be performing at the VMA’s on Monday.
Oh my gosh, as if I couldn’t possibly be more excited for this weekend of Taylor, now I also have Monday night to look forward to?!
Lover is just the gift that keeps on giving.
And my low-key favorite part of the interview was when Taylor talked about her dad handing out pizzas to the fans who slept out in the street waiting for Taylor’s GMA performance.
I mean seriously, could the Swift family be any cuter?
The Swifties were flooding Twitter with their excitement over her GMA performance and the album.
One person wrote quote, “had the BEST time at #TaylorSwiftOnGMA this morning!! Waiting 25 hours to be first in line was SO worth it. We love you @taylorswift13 !! Can’t wait for the album to be released tonight!”
And another said quote, “I LOVE YOU @taylorswift13 !!!!#TaylorSwiftOnGMA”
And fans weren’t the only ones who were excited. There were actually tons of other celebs in the audience at Taylor’s GMA performance.
Todrick Hall, Taylor’s BFF and collaborator, was there with none other than Tiffany Haddish!
Toddrick took time to pass out “Lover” guitar picks to all the fans who waited in line overnight to get a front row seat!
And the Bachelorette’s Hannah Brown was there dancing away to Taylor’s hits.
And clearly you can tell I am ALLL ABOUT today, tomorrow and the rest of Taylor Swifts life… so let me turn it over to you, so you can have some time to fangirl!
How freaking excited are you for Lover to come out? What did you think of Taylor’s GMA performance? And what was your favorite part of her interview?
