Ariana Grande is set to receive the first-ever honorary citizenship award by the city of Manchester following her fundraising efforts to honor the lives that were lost in the terrorist attacks.
As emotional as the One Love Manchester concert was, it was equally as successful, so really I’d be more surprised if Ari DIDN’T receive the highest honor for her efforts.
Proving that we will not let fear and hate outweigh love and courage, Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester benefit concert held last weekend, racked in over $13 million in donation toward the victims and their families. The city was so impressed by her efforts that Manchester officials are reportedly changing the rules to allow Ariana to receive the first ever honorary citizenship of the city even though she’s a U.S. citizen.
According to The Guardian, the city plans on formally honoring Ariana and recognizing the “great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit” in the wake of the terrorist tragedy that occurred during her Manchester show on May 22nd. The leader of the Manchester city council, Richard Leese, added that Ari represented the overwhelming response of “love and courage”, saying QUOTE, “I think many people would already consider her an honorary Mancunian and we would be delighted, if the council approves the proposal, to make it official.”
The Guardian also stated that ‘honorary citizenship’ is the highest honor that a city can bestow upon a person, and let’s be real, are we really surprised by what Ari has shown us over the past month that she’s more than fully qualified to receive this award? Yeah, NO.
Let’s also not forget that the day prior to the concert, she arrived in Manchester to spend time visiting the bombing survivors and the families of the victims in the hospital… I mean I didn’t think I had witnessed the acts of a real-life angel until last week.
But although the incident undoubtedly took a personal toll on Ariana, considering the bombing occurred minutes after her show concluded, she has done her absolute best to put the citizens of Manchester first and foremost to show she is in full support of the entire community, so I think I speak on behalf of ALL of us Arianators that we couldn’t be prouder to be fans, and as if I wasn’t already, her acts of kindness have further solidified my life-long membership in the Ariana fandom.
I already know you guys are with me on that, but I do want to know all your thoughts on Ari’s prestigious honor given by the city of Manchester, so hit us up in the comments, and after that be sure to click right over here to relive all the best moments from the One Love Manchester benefit concert.
