Kendrick Lamar Becomes FIRST Rapper To Win Pulitzer Prize For DAMN Album

Ever since Kendrick Lamar’s album DAMN was released into the world last April, it has been receiving awards left and right. And now, the album is adding yet another trophy to its long list of accomplishments.
On Monday afternoon, the Pulitzer board revealed that they’ve awarded Kendrick with a Pulitzer Prize for music for his album, DAMN. You guys, this is SUCH a historical moment for the music industry. The Pulitzer board only started including a music category roughly 75 years ago and this win makes Kendrick the first non-classical or jazz musician to win the prestigious prize.
According to Variety, they reported that the board deemed the album a QUOTE, “…virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
Kendrick has yet to speak out on this amazing news but Punch, the head of Kendrick’s label Top Dawg Entertainment tweeted, “Pulizter Prize winner Kdot from Compton. I better not ever hear one of you speak with anything less than respect in your mouth for Kendrick Lamar.”
Congratulations are obviously in order for Kendrick’s latest win.
