Another day, another one of Kim Kardashian’s sexy selfies. They’re literally a dime a dozen, but her most recent one has gotten everyone up in arms.
While almost everyone in America was taking time out of their day to express their grievances regarding the back to back deaths of two innocent black men, Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, Kim K shared a steamy selfie to her Instagram and that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. The reality star posted a picture of herself wearing skintight body suit with ample cleavage and captioned the photo, “Pre photo shoot fittings.” And just like that, Kim started to receive a ton of flak from commenters.
It should be noted that before Kim shared her selfie, the mother of two retweeted a tweet from John Legend that said QUOTE, “We should not have to jump through hoops to prove black people shouldn’t be shot by police during routine traffic stops.” Along with many other retweets regarding the recent events, but retweets about the issue were not enough.
One Twitter user commented on Kim’s selfie and said QUOTE, “seriously, no one cares about your bathing suit. I wish U would use your platform to talk about what’s going on, not retweet it.” While a few others pleaded Kim to make a statement with her words as opposed to her body by saying, “Kim…of all the days. Come on. You have two black children and a black husband. Say SOMETHING.” And “@KimKardashian you have a black son. Are you outraged?!?! Use your power to say something.”
After all of those messages, Kim finally penned a letter addressing the recent events and shared it with her fans on her website. Kim wrote, QUOTE “This week we watched Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, two innocent black men, get senselessly murdered by police officers. Like a lot of you guys, I watched the videos, and was appalled and completely heartbroken. I was left speechless, angry and numb.
I want my children to grow up knowing that their lives matter. I do not ever want to have to teach my son to be scared of the police, or tell him that he has to watch his back because the people we are told to trust—the people who "protect and serve"—may not be protecting and serving him because of the color of his skin.
The last thing we need is to fuel anger with more hate or violence, especially toward the many incredible police officers who risk their lives every single day to protect our families and communities. We must peacefully use the power of our voices and the strength of our numbers to demand changes in the judicial system so that brutality doesn't ever go unpunished.
It is our responsibility as Americans and as parents to create a safe future for our children. We must do something NOW. We must speak up until we are heard and real, effective changes are made.
Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Sean Bell … and unfortunately so many more. Hashtags are not enough. This must end now.”
The reality star ended her letter with links for people to contact their legislator and to donate to Philando and Alton’s families.
