Riverdale SPINOFF in the Works BUT Will Be 'Much Different'

Hold on to your remotes, a brand new Riverdale spinoff is underway. Nope, we’re not talking about The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, we’re talking about ANOTHER Riverdale spinoff. At the summer TCA press tour The CW’s President Mark Pedowitz let the news slip, revealing that they are in the early stages of developing a companion series from Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Mark unveiled quote, “In terms of spinoffs out of Riverdale, I’m waiting to hear what Roberto has in mind. He has something in mind.” Of course, Roberto was then pressed for details about the spinoff after the Riverdale session, but held back from saying too much. But what he did say was just enough to get us to start speculating: “We’re really excited but we’re still early on in the process. It will be very different from Riverdale.” What we’re dying to know now is HOW different is this gonna be? Will Riverdale fans still want to tune in? While we don’t have any answers to these questions, the good news is that the new spinoff could grace our TV screens as early as 2019.
Roberto was also asked if this spinoff would revolve around any current Riverdale cast members, but declined to answer. The showrunner is also spearheading Netflix’s upcoming Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series. After lots of speculation that a Riverdale- Sabrina crossover may be coming, Mark Pedowitz put that notion to rest saying there aren’t any plans in the works. Roberto explained why saying quote, “I think right now we’re just making sure that the shows have their own identities and own set of rules.” And if you think about it, that kinda makes sense. Sabrina will air on Netflix and Riverdale is currently airing on The CW. We think it’s probably more likely for this new spinoff to do a crossover with Riverdale, as both shows will call The CW home.
