It looks like Rachel Berry and the Glee gang will end things right where they started them – in good ol’ Lima, Ohio. That’s right, plot details for the FOX show’s sixth and final season have been revealed, and it looks as though things are coming full circle.
FOX confirmed that the show will focus on Lea Michele’s character Rachel and her return to her hometown after a failed attempt at a career in TV. Upon her return, she finds out that Sue Sylvester has finally gotten her wish as New Directions has been disbanded for good.
HOWEVER! Rachel decides to do what Will Schuester did back in the day and get the Glee club going again. So, from what it sounds like, they’re just going to re-do the first season with Rachel as Will? We’re kidding…sort of. We can’t really blame the show for resorting to this because Glee’s first season was just SO perfect that it makes total sense they’d want to return to the simple formula that made viewers fall in love with Glee in the first place.
Anyways, it should also be noted that Sam, Blaine, and Will have all found “surprising” local gigs, so they’ll all be back. Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Jane Lynch, and Kevin McHale will also be coming back as series regulars, while Naya Rivera will return in a limited capacity.
We’ll also be getting a little blast from the past as Max Adler will reprise his role as closeted Dave Karavosky. And we should also mention that there’s a time jump expected for this final season, though we’re still not sure how far into the future they’ll be taking things.
Ryan Murphy recently spoke about the show’s final season saying:
"It really [will be] a lovely, fitting season that … dwells on the original people that were on the show and what happens to them and how they give back. That really is the last season. .… We'll revisit some of the new kids that came and went. There's a return of the Jane-Matt characters in a big way. It's really interesting, a very sweet, satisfying ending to the story."
The final season of Glee will return for a limited 13 episode run in early 2015.
