So if you’re one of those people who has trouble adjusting to big changes, don’t worry, because there is nothing different about the new Snapchat – wait, I mean Instagram.
If you just so happened to aimlessly scroll through Instagram in the past 24 hours (and if you haven’t then what HAVE you been doing?), you probably noticed a brand new, rather familiar feature located on the top of your photo feed. No, this is not an Instagram/Snapchat collaboration, but it might as well be, because it has the exact same features of a Snapchat story.
The new feature Instagram has conveniently dubbed as the ‘Stories’ feature, allows users to upload photos and videos while letting your creativity fly freely with the help of text and writing tools, all while lasting only 24 hours until they disappear for good.
Unlike other Instagram posts, users will not be able to comment on the ‘Stories’ feature, unless they want to send a private message. The photos and videos posted to the new feature will also not appear on the original Instagram timeline.
So what really is the point of a Snapchat 2.0 feature on Instagram? In an official blog, Instagram revealed that QUOTE, “Using Stories, you don’t have to worry about overposting. Stories lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile.”
Gee, if only we had a separate app that could take care of that problem… OH, WAIT. But the good news is that if you think you’re the only one in the world in full hesitation mode of whether or not to conform to the new fad, you’re not alone. Naturally, the Internet had a few things to say about the Spapchat replica feature, with perfectly-summed up memes and all.
Many users took to Twitter to share their refusal to use Insta Stories because it doesn’t include filters that turn you into a dog, or a supermodel for that matter. One user attached a meme featuring the butterfly crown filter that said, “Until Instagram stories can make me look like a much prettier version of myself, I’m sticking with Snapchat.” Another user attached a gif with the caption, writing, “But does #InstagramStories have a dog filter?”
Many people, on the other hand, were wishing that Instagram stole features that would really come in handy for us, one person writing, “Hey @Instagram, if you wanna take ideas from other social media apps please take the "Follows you" sign from @Twitter #InstagramStories”
And my personal favorite meme featured First Lady Michelle Obama as the OG Snapchat logo, alongside Melania Trump as the ‘new’ Instagram logo, with the scripture, “Say hello to Instagram stories. Pictures disappear after 24 hours. Make it your own with drawing and text.”
Ahhh, yes, the internet never ceases to humor us. But now that you’ve heard it all from me, I want to know all your thoughts on the new Instagram feature. Are you just as confused as the rest of us all, or are you kinda diggin’ it?
