Mother of the queen, Tina Knowles presented Beyonce while noting that both of her daughters were Grammy winners tonight. Daughter. Goals. Then the performance kicked off with a projection show of B looking like a literal goddess with her arms stretched out as fabric flowed from her limbs. I’m not being dramatic, it was actually magical. Then boom she emerged look like a literal queen and from then on out I died from an overdose of beauty intake.
The maternity poem from Lemonade played as the projections continued showing the dancers kneeling around Beyonce when suddenly she snapped her fingers and the dancers multiplied. The whole thing was very symbolic of maternity and the strength and grace of women everywhere. Then can we talk about the beautiful moment when the projection showed Blue running around B before it switched to an image showing Tina Knowles, Beyonce, and Blue Ivy kneeling beside one another as a sign of the generations. Yonce performed “Pray You Catch Me,” sounded bomb of course, and even reenacted the chair tip from the music video! After some more stunning and symbolic choreo from the dancers, Beyonce sat down to perform “Sandcastles” and no doubt triggered tears in the eyes of everyone watching. The performance ended with the words “now that reconciliation is possible, if we’re going to heal, let it be glorious.” She then blew a kiss to Jay and he looked at her the way all women dream their husbands will one day look at them. So much love. So much beauty in one performance. Clearly I hated it.
