The moment we found out that Shawn Mendes and Niall Horan are fans of each other AND friends IRL, we were immediately like, sooooo when’s the epic duet coming? Both singers have been vocal about wanting to work together, but neither have really given fans any kind of official confirmation that a collab is going to happen--until now.
While talking to Entertainment Tonight, Shawn said of the collab rumors QUOTE, “It will be true one day...We’re really good friends and we hang out all the time, and we are always like, ‘We should write a song,’ and then we’re planning on writing a song—and then we just end up hanging out!...It’s better off that way because if there’s a friendship, then the song comes easy. So, one day, I promise! I promise, guys.”
Okay we can kind of get that they just end up hanging out all the time. I mean it’s not like most of us hang out with our BFFs and go, “Hey we should do some work”, right?! That being said, these are two of our favorite songwriters on the planet, and Shawn already admitted it would be easy for the two to write together! Hopefully now that Shawn has officially promised fans that the collab is coming, their next hangout sesh will naturally turn into a writing sesh.
Besides making promises we will definitely be keeping him to, Shawn has also been busy being Alicia Keys’ celebrity adviser on this season of The Voice. He’s said of that experience QUOTE, “I feel like I should be getting in front of the microphone and singing, like, asking her for advice...I'm like, 'Am I really sitting here right now with her being an adviser? I'm 19 years old!' This is really crazy.” The Voice premieres on February 26th on NBC and we cannot WAIT to see the advice Shawn has to offer.
