Award show season 2016 is already shaping up to be one for the books, because we’ve got some good competition on our hands here, so let’s get down to the good stuff!
Leading the pack for nominations for this year’s CCMA’s, with a whopping 13 total noms was…. DRUM ROLL PLEASE…. Mad Max: Fury Road. This year it scored nominations for best picture, best actress, best director, best cinematography, best action movie AND sci-fi horror movie and best actor in an action movie.
Trailing right behind Mad Max were The Martian, The Revenant and Carol, all bringing in a total of 9 nominations each, including all three for best picture. Other movies nominated in the best picture category include The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Room, Sicario and Spotlight.
In the category for best animated feature, we have Anomalisa, The Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, The Peanuts Movie and Shaun the Sheep, while best action movie goes out to Furious 7, Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Sicario and movies including The Big Short, Inside Out, Joy, Sisters, Spy and Trainwreck were all nominated for best comedy.
For best actor category, we have Bryan Cranston from Trumbo, Matt Damon in The Martian, Johnny Depp from Black Mass, Leonardo DiCaprio for his work in The Revenant, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl. Best actress includes Cate Blanchett for Carol, newcomer Brie Larson in Room, Jennifer Lawrence for Joy, Charlotte Rampling in 45 Years, Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn and Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.
And 2015 was also a big year for television with Fargo leading the pack with 8 nominations total, including best movie made for television series, best actor and actress, and 2 noms for best supporting actor in a movie made for television series. The category for best drama series includes Empire, Mr. Robot, Penny Dreadful, Rectify, The Knick, The Leftovers and Lifetime’s UnREAL. Best comedy series includes ABC’s Black-ish, Catastrophe, Jane the Virgin, Aziz Ansari’s Netflix series Master of None, The Last Man on Earth, Transparent and FX’s You’re the Worst.
Best actor in a comedy series goes out to Anthony Anderson in Black-ish, Aziz Ansari in Master of None, Will Forte in The Last Man on Earth, Randall Park for Fresh Off the Boat, Fred Savage in The Grinder and Jeffrey Tambor in Transparent. And best comedy series actresses include Rachel Bloomin The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Aya Cash in You’re the Worst, Wendi McLendon-Covey in The Goldbergs, Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez, Tracee Ellis Ross in Black-ish and Constance Wu in Fresh Off the Boat.
Best talk show nominees include Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Graham Norton Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
And in the best competition reality show category, we have Chopped, Face Off, MasterChef Junior, Survivor, The Voice and of course The Amazing Race, and if I do recall, there might be a few familiar faces on The Amazing Race this season, so be sure to tune in to watch Joslyn and I compete in the toughest and most amazing experience of our entire lives.
